IMHO...

When I discover a good product I need to let my girls know.  I'll text them, bring the product to our next girl's night to try it out on a willing (and sometimes not so willing) guinea pig, and sometimes I'll even take the liberty to purchase enough of a product for my friends (if I think it's that good). When I discover an amazing product, I have the uncontrollable urge to shout it out from a mountaintop so that all who share my love affair for makeup may be privy to it's amazingness.  Have a look below for what, IMHO, are some amazing products/tips/videos related to all things beautiful.

I have found my new favourite "foundation" of the moment.  If we were having a conversation, I would have used annoying air quotes, as IMHO this magical formula is so sheer, light, and hydrating, it ought to be marketed as a BB Cream or a Tinted Moisturizer.
It's a fluid foundation with low-to-medium coverage and I swear it contains unicorn tear drops or something, because it does wonders to my skin.  It leaves me looking all dewey and glow-y, without looking like I can't regulate my internal temperature.  What's even better is that it's water-resistant.  Attention all ugly criers!  Finally a foundation that will allow you to bare your soul like Kim K, and recover without missing a beat.  Like Kim K.

Disclaimer: I freaking love her.
In addition to all that jazz, it's a buildable formula, which means that if you need a little extra help, all you need to do is wait for it to dry and add as many layers as you need.  I prefer to apply this foundation with my fingers as I find that it gets a bit streaky if I use a buffing brush or a paddle brush.  It costs $32 for 50mL and can be purchased at any MAC store or counter.

That is all.

After hearing so much hype about the Real Techniques brushes and seeing so many beauty vloggers feature these brushes in their videos, I finally caved and bought myself the Core Collection.  At $18.97 for 4 brushes, let's be real, it didn't take much to convince me to buy the set.  The Core Collection comes with 4 synthetic haired brushes and a brush case.  Now, I have to admit that prior to using these brushes, I'd been partial to animal hair brushes, but I was pleasantly surprised after trying out these bad girls.  Here's my review on each of the brushes found in the Core Collection:
  • My absolute fave is the buffing brush.  On the Real Techniques website the buffing brush is described as being the perfect brush for applying powder and mineral foundation.  I've been using the buffing brush to buff in my tinted moisturizer and I find that not only does it make my product go a long way, by buffing my foundation into my skin (as opposed to using a paddle brush to smear it on), I can achieve a light, flawless finish.  LOVE.
  • I have to admit that when I saw the precision brush I thought, "meh, if anything my son can use this for his water-colour masterpieces".  But more and more, I find myself reaching for this little gem.  I've used it as a lip brush, a lash line blender, and as a brush to apply concentrated colour to my outer V.
  • I'm a big fan of the pointed foundation brush.  I use it to apply concealer and highlighter.
  • Now.  I have tried my fair share of contour brushes.  I've tried the NARS Ita Kabuki brush, various MAC brushes, I've even custom trimmed my brushes to try to create the perfect contour brush.  This brush is the Holy Grail of contour brushes.  The bristles are compact and domed enough to apply a concentration of colour, whereas they are soft enough to be able to nicely blend out your product so that you don't end up with a stripy face- never a good look.
So, there you have it.  I'm at the top of the mountain, friends.  Whether you're looking to expand your current brush collection or your just starting off and have no idea where to start, the Real Techniques Core Collection comes highly recommended.

XOXO,

Christine.
